Incredible Monaco

That was with out doubt one of the most exiting races iv seen, and it was in Monaco where your supposedly not meant to be able to overtake...
The sun was beating down on the most iconic race track in the world, the spectators were out in force and we were about to whitens one of the best Monte Carlo Grand Prix in quite a while. Last year there were just 3 overtakes in the twisting streets that we all love, all of them by Fernando on back markers. This year however, we got more than that on the first lap. The action kicked off when Schumacher's Mercedes went into anti-stall and fell down the order. This wasn't to get the man with 5 Monaco wins under his belt  down though. He fought through the pack on the first lap and caught a sleeping Lewis Hamilton, who started from ninth following a penalty for cutting the swimming pool chicane. The next few laps were action packed with an impatient Hamilton trying to get past the old boy. After ducking and diving trying to get past, eventually Hamilton got through. Further up the field Vettel was leading Jenson, Alonso and Webber,  they weren't putting up much of a fight though and Vettel had pulled out a two second lead by the end of the first lap. All the action was happening in the with a frustrated Hamilton as he tried to fight through the field. The next fase was the pit stops which for teams spending hundreds of millions of pounds a year were simply diabolical. It looked like Red Bull didn't know that Vettel or Webber were coming in. When Seb entered the pit the mechanic on the left front had trouble getting the tyre out the bag then Webber came in and the mechanics were still walking out the of the pit. All this played into the hands of Jenson Button who was the only front runner not to have problems in the pit. After the first stint he was leading and pulling time out of Vettel in second. As Monaco is normally a boring race it looked like Jenson had it all wrapped up, but it wasn't to be. McLaren thought that they saw a opportunity when Timo Glock had suspension failure, they brought Jenson in thinking that there would be a safety car. There wasn't. This gave Vettel the lead, once again. Further down the field Hamilton was fighting with with Massa, this resulted in Massa's car getting damaged on Lewis' first attempt which he was subsequently penalised for. On Hamilton's second attempt which was ultimately successful for him, he dived down the inside of the tunnel, Massa ran wide on to the marbles and crashed. This brought out the safety car and then the action started once again. Jenson had closed on Sebastian and Fernando was closing on Jenson. Button was all over the Back of Seb but there was no way though, so he pitted? Which gave Alonso the chance to close on Vettel, then it was clear that those two were going to finnish without making a further pit stop. Jenson was a pit stop behind and had a lot of ground to make up. On fresher tyres though, he did make up the gap and in the closing stages it looked like we were going to have a three way fight for the win, in Monaco! As the top three closed on a group of back markers it all kicked off. Sutil ran wide hitting the barriers and giving himself a punture whilst Hamilton was passing Petrov, as Lewis slowed to avoid Sutil; Alguersuari went in to the back of him destroying his rear wing. Alguersuari then crashed into the armco and was collected by Petrov. All this happened in font of the battle for first place. The pile up was big enough to bring out the red flags and the race was stopped with just 8 laps to go. Petrov was complaining about back pain but thankfully he is okay. The red flag gave the McLaren mechanics time to repair Lewis' rear wing. Once the race was restated it was clear that there would be no further action at the front  and we would not get the three way fight that was proving to be so exiting. On the restart Hamilton pulled another risky over take on Maldonado, Pastor turned in on the britt and ended up with his nose in the deadly Monaco armco. This was, in my opinion, a racing incident but it shows just how annoyed Lewis was with not just the race but the whole weekend, one to forget i think especially as up until Q3 Hamilton was favourite for pole and win. Just in front of that Webber had got past Kobayashi who drove a brilliant race to bring his Sauber home in 5th a career best for the overtaking phenomenal.
The race ended with Vettel in 1st, Alonso 2nd, Jenson 3rd, Webber 4th, Kobayashi 5th, Hamilton 6th and a disappointed Sutil in 7th, it looked like he was going to take a equal career best of 4th which he hasn't achieved since Monza 2009.
The action wasn't over after the race, in an interview with the BBC's Lee Mackenzie Lewis Hamilton had an outburst of emotion when he complained about being sent to the stewards after 5 of the 6 races so far this season he called it 'a joke' complaining that some of the drivers were 'absolutely frickin ridiculous'. when asked why he thought he was being targeted Hamilton jokingly said 'maybe its because im black...' which im sure he'll regret in the morning
Overall a VERY exiting and confusing Monaco Grand Prix which is a credit to F1's new rules. Next time out were in Canada, a track that Lewis Hamilton thrives on and I'm sure we'll see him fully charged up eager for the win. It looks like Vettel is running away with the championship but it will be interesting to see what happens behind him. See you in Montreal, its going to be good. Expect high tyre ware and a few cars in the wall of champions...

Post-Quli..

As i said; anything can happen in F1... Especially in Monaco ay? Well I definitely wasn't expecting any of that. After setting a blistering lap in Q2 it looked like Lewis was the man to beat with Jenson close behind. It looked like a dream day for McLaren. However it wasn't to be. After Q1 things started to go down hill for Ferrari's golden boy. With Red Bull and McLaren showing their true pace pole looked to be out of reach for Fernando. It all kicked off in Q3 though, the ten big boys went out in search of the most important pole in F1. It was Jenson who set the early pace but it was not long before Vettel showed why when it comes to qualifying he is renowned for one lap pace. Once he put the super soft tyres on, it was Seb on provisional pole. Alonso pace was fading away. It seemed to be that the only man that could beat Seb was Lewis. He set out with only one thing on his mind; being the closest to the starting lights tomorrow, look but never stair. His first flying lap was impeded when a boringly slow Felipe Massa just wouldn't get out the way, this left him 6 tenths down in the first sector. Then the thousands of spectators at the track and million watching anxiously on TV heart's sank. Sergio Perez ran wide out of the tunnel hitting the armco in the same place Nico Rosberg hit it earlier today in P3. Perez, however wasn't as lucky. After losing all control of his Sauber, Perez spun through 180 degrees and slamed into the barriers, thankfully they did their job and Sergio is conscious and talking. I think we have F1's amazing safety regulations to thank for that. I hope Sergio is okay but his chances of competing in tomorrow's Grand Prix are slim, and stupid... This left the session red flagged with 2:26 on the clock, only enough time for one flying lap. The man who need it most; Lewis Hamilton, who had yet to set a tim in Q3. Half an hour later Charlie Whiting, F1's race director announced that the rest of the session would be completed. This is when things went from bad to worse for the plucky, ambitious Britt. Lewis sat at the lights for over two minutes waiting for the session to restart. All the time he sat there his tyres were cooling down and his engine heating up. Once the session was under way once again the size of his problems started to show. In the first sector Lewis was 3 tenths down on Seb, sliding all over the place it was clear that there was no temperature in his tyres. By the end of the lap he was over a second down on Vettel and no one got the intense fight for pole position that we were all hoping for. Lewis starts tomorrow from 7th on the grid with a huge amount of ground to make up if he is to be within chance of a podium place, around the streets of Monte Carlo it will be a tall order even if he gets a perfect gat away followed by a perfect race. 80% of the races won at Monaco have been one from the top 3 slots from the grid so a wins pretty much out the picture for Lewis, the question is what will happen infront...

Qualifying results:

1 Sebastian Vettel
2 Jenson Button
3 Mark Webber
4 Fernando Alonso
5 Michel Schumacher
6 Felipe Massa
7 Lewis Hamilton
8 Nico Rosberg
9 Pastor Maldonado
10 Sergio Perez

Monaco Baby

With just over an hour to go to before the mad rush for the most important pole position in the F1 calendar gets under way the only question that reamins is will anyone be able to stop the seemingly unstoppable force of wich is the RB7? Well Alonso and Hamilton are the only people in my mind that are up to the challenge, as much as i respect Jenson's smooth driving style and strategical decisions i dont think hes got the pace this weekend, at least thats what free practice would have me believe, but this is f1 so anything could happen... Lewis has said himself that "I really want to win this Grand Prix, man" and he needs to win this Grand Prix to stop Seb running away with the title and making the season boring. we all know that he's up to the challenge and i hope that puts in the blistering lap that we all know he's capable of. Alonso is the other man that needs to win here, even more so than Hamilton. The Ferrari has been off the pace ever since Melbourne and without a win here and Alonso already being 61 points off championship leader Sebastian Vettel the chance of Alonso taking a 3rd title will be even harder. DRS is the other thing that needs a mention, even though it made a normally boring Spanish Grand Prix bloody exiting I find it hard to see that we're going to see any DRS aided overtakes on the winding streets of Monte Carlo. Strategy seems to be the only way to fight your way through the field here and even that well be hard as some teams think it will be possible do a one stop race, the chances of that are very slim so I think we'll see a fight between the two stoppers and the three.
So bring on what I hope is a brilliant Monaco Grand Prix, i hope we see a car on the number one spot of the grid that isn't a  Red Bull. I'm biast and wouldn't mind it being the shining McLaren of Lewis Hamilton but we'll have to wait and see. This is going to be the most important race so far, not one to miss...
